Responsible Gambling
This page is important. Please read it.
Online betting and casino games are a form of entertainment. For the vast majority of people, they remain exactly that. But for some, gambling can become a problem — affecting finances, relationships, and mental health.
This page exists to make sure you have the information you need to stay in control.
The Golden Rules of Safe Gambling
Set a budget before you play. Decide the maximum you are willing to lose before you open the app. Treat it like the cost of entertainment — a cinema ticket, a meal out. Once it’s spent, the session is over.
Never chase losses. If you lose your budget, stop. The temptation to “win it back” is one of the most dangerous patterns in gambling behaviour. Losses cannot be reliably recovered through more gambling.
Time limits matter. It is easy to lose track of time while playing. Set an alarm or a session time limit before you start.
Never gamble under the influence. Alcohol and other substances impair the judgement needed to make rational betting decisions.
Gambling is not income. Do not treat betting as a source of money for bills, food, or daily expenses. It is entertainment with unpredictable outcomes.
Keep it separate from problems. Gambling to escape stress, depression, or anxiety almost always makes those problems worse.
Signs of Problem Gambling
Consider speaking to someone if you recognise any of the following:
- You spend more than you planned, more often than you planned
- You hide gambling activity from family or friends
- You borrow money to gamble
- Gambling is affecting your sleep, work, or relationships
- You feel anxious, irritable, or depressed when not gambling
- You try to stop and cannot
Self-Assessment
Ask yourself the following questions honestly. The more “yes” answers, the greater the cause for concern:
- Do you gamble for longer than you intended?
- Have you ever borrowed money or sold something to fund gambling?
- Have you lied to family or friends about how much you gamble?
- Have you tried to win back money you lost (“chasing”)?
- Have you felt you might have a gambling problem?
- Has gambling caused you to feel anxious, guilty, or depressed?
- Has gambling affected your work, studies, or relationships?
If you answered “yes” to two or more, consider reaching out to one of the support services below. There is no shame in asking for help — it is a sign of strength.
